Stan Nakano is the Utah District Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration. He has ultimate responsibility for a variety of loan programs and entrepreneurial development programs available to the public. The Utah District provides funding support to statewide SBA business partner networks of Small Business Development Centers, SCORE Chapters, and a Women’s Business Center.
During fiscal year 2016, under Nakano’s leadership, Utah District’s direct monetary impact on the Utah small business community totaled over $967 million in loans and federal contract awards. Utah SBA guaranteed 1,314 loans to small businesses, totaling over $579 million. Each of these loans was made through SBA approved banks, credit unions, and certified development companies. Additionally, $183 million in federal contracts were awarded to Utah small businesses through SBA contracting programs.
Before becoming Utah District Director, Nakano served as Chief of Portfolio Management for the Utah District Office. Nakano has an education background in finance and managed the SBA lending department for a Utah bank before joining SBA. He has served as Acting Regional Administrator for SBA Region VIII on several occasions, and continues to be actively involved in all facets of economic development and small business entrepreneurship.
Nakano is most proud of the impact Utah SBA has had on the success of thousands of small businesses the SBA and its partners assist each year.
