Training

Education is a crucial component of any successful business lending program. MBL educates credit unions concerning the design and implementation of small business lending programs, how to market the programs to potential customers, how to screen applications and apply sound business lending principles.

MBL uses a variety of delivery methods to train credit union participants. Live, in-person training, web and audio conferences, recorded training modules, newsletters, and memos are the primary training delivery channels.

In addition to formal training, MBL has developed a unique coaching relationship between MBL’s credit analysts and the credit union’s business development officers. When a new credit union joins MBL, we will work one-on-one with the credit union’s business development officer(s) in an effort to facilitate a smooth transition into MBL’s processing and analysis methods. This includes training on how to structure a loan, submit a complete loan package, analyze borrower’s financial information, accurately complete a pro forma balance sheet and calculate global cash flow requirements. As business development officers submit loan packages to MBL for processing and loan underwriting review, credit analysts are able to evaluate the quality of the package and identify areas where further training may be needed.
